A red dress

For one of the presentations of my last novel Le donne del Grimorio, I´ve chosen to wear a red dress.

The book speaks about women considered witches because they have some medical knowledge and they know about the female body. They are midwifes and they help life to come to the world.

Life that is strongly associated with the red colour that, as it is well known, simbolizes the strenght of blood and conjugates in itself both life and death.

Red stays for passion and fire that can be deeply positive but also incredibly dangerous and destructive.  Red, the colour of princes and power, the colour of emperors and cardinals, the colour of love and jealousy.

Stendhal, in his Le rouge et le noir, associates the red to the ideas of life, strenght, violence and unconventionality macking of it the colour of action.

It is clear how many emotions  this peculiar colour can suggest in such a strong dichotomy that seems to reveal all the charm of burning flames.

It was not a case I chose a red dress to present a book that speaks of women that fight for their knowledge, for their life, for their love.

A red dress to honour women that are untamed and free also when they are put on the stake because they know they could perpetuate their knowledge through their daughters.

Women that, yesterday as today, fight with passion and without fear for what they believe in.
