Sissi Empress of Vienna. The capital of Austria celebrates the 175th anniversary of her birthday.
The capital of Austria celebrates the 175th anniversary of Empress Elizabeth (better known as Sissi) with exhibitions, concerts and a wide variety of cuisine and entertainment.
175 years ago, on Christmas Eve, Empress Elizabeth of Vienna (better known as Sissi) was born. Great number of exhibitions and shows are converting Austria and specially Vienna, the city where she spent much of her life, in a great setting to enjoy its fabulous palaces, theaters, restaurants and of course its classic streets, now renovated. Vienna is offering visitors the best and more fantastic image of a city which mix old and new, romantic and actual… an eternal blue waltz.
In Raimund Theater, you can enjoy the famous musical “Elisabeth” or you can visit the exhibition “Sissi of Corfu” in the Museum of Furniture. It’s interesting also the show “Sissi on Film”, with scenes of the legendary trilogy starring by Romy Schneider. Many other musical or gastronomic events create a happy atmosphere, always mixing classic and modern and without losing an ounce of charm. One example is the Danube Canal.
The center of the new life in Vienna goes through the Danube Canal, with new architecture and lifestyle. Fantastic are the new piers and the catamarans (called Twin City Liner) that link Vienna and Bratislava in only 75 minutes.
Definitely, architecturally, Vienna is now making a great expansion. Jean Nouvel, author of the revolutionary Torre Agbar in Barcelona, is just building in the Danube Canal. Dominique Perrault and the cooperative architects Coop Himmelb (l) aus have also important projes. Finally, the new Vienna Central Station is one of the most modern in Europe, and around it, they are creating a whole new area that will seat 20,000 people.
Empress Elizabeth, Sissi, a myth, indissoluble legend to imperial Vienna.
